About our camping trips...
There are 2 types of camping - car camping and backpacking. We do car camping the bulk of the time. That does not mean we sleep in cars.
Car camping means you can bring a few more items with you, then when you arrive, you walk about 15 feet and there's your new home for the next few days. It's simple and comfortable IF you know what you're doing.
Backpacking, on the other hand, is like carrying your home on your back. You need to pack very light, take ONLY the essential items, have backpacking skills or make sure you go with someone who does.
We want to make sure you have a good experience when you first start out camping OR you may never want to camp again. Car camping is a great way to get used to camping. Backpacking, on the other hand, is a more advanced way to camp and requires more skill.
I love camping in Utah State and National Parks. There are five National Parks in Utah and numerous State Parks. Each of these parks have their own amazing personalities and incredible scenery. To get an idea of just how many State Parks there are in Utah, visit http://stateparks.utah.gov/.
I've camped in most of these already. Each one has a unique beauty all of its own. Join us even if you have never camped before. WeI'll teach you camping skills and what to bring and how to prepare BEFORE you go camping. Let me know if you'd like to attend a 1-hour camping class prior to a camping trip.

Only $75/person for an adventurous, exciting Weekend Getaway!
Most of us are tent camping. We stay at modern campsites, most of which are state parks. They include quality bathrooms w/ showers. If you prefer, stay in a nearby motel or bring your own trailer. (Motel expenses are not included and cost of the trip remains the same).
"Local" means within 4 hours driving time of SLC.
Most trips are under 3 hours driving time from SLC.
Delicious, healthy meals are provided including Dutch Oven Dinners.
Benefits include companionship, opportunities to meet other like-minded outdoor enthusiasts, carpool assistance, experienced hiking/camping/bike-riding guides, etc.
Learn skills in Dutch Oven Cooking, Camping, Mountain Biking, Hiking, Emergency Preparedness, Survival Skills, Kayaking, etc.
Trips have been researched, scouted out, planned, and organized ahead of time so you can come, relax and enjoy the trip the way YOU want to enjoy it!

Camping gear:

NOTE: Only those we have predetermined need to bring a tent and tarp.
Sleeping bag
Pad – Prefer a Thermal Pad (2" - 4") essential for warmth/comfort.
Pillow
NOTE: I store these items STUFF SACKS.
MESS KIT (Plate, bowl, cup, knife, fork, spoon – NON-breakable) Plan to clean your own dishes.
FRUIT to share with group: When we get to Escalante State Park, give your fruit to Gail or myself. Fruits in season i.e.: Bananas, pineapple, cantaloupe, grapes, strawberries, oranges, apples, etc. If you know what you'd like to bring, email soon. If we get too much of one kind, I'll let you know.
SACK LUNCH for the first day – we are generally on the road for a few hours. This should be something to eat until dinnertime.

Flip Flops/Sandals (NOT for hiking)
Hiking shoes or good lightweight athletic shoes – if possible bring 2 pair since one may get wet (but it's not necessary).
Hiking socks
Long pants – stay away from fabrics like denim. Find pants that stretch, wick and breathe well. Polyester high tech fabrics work GREAT!
Shirts - long sleeve and short sleeve – no cotton, easy to layer shirts – polyester is great. Find shirts that are comfortable, stretch, wick and breathe well.
Sleepwear – bring something for your head for cold nights. Don’t sleep in the same clothes you hike in.

Hat with a wider brim and neck protector
Water bottles – 2 ½ liters worth (fresh water is available at our campsite)
